Meet the Artist
Leann is a professional nature and landscape photographer living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Her passion for capturing the unique beauty of her surroundings is carefully crafted and translated through to her works of art.
Her love for photography has spanned close to 40 years, starting out as a hobby shooting mainly black and white film with her trusty Yashica 35mm camera. When the price of professional film and photo development continued to sky rocket, she grudgingly switched over to her first digital camera in 2003 and has never looked back.
Over the years, she has continued to hone her skills as both a photographer and post production editor, taking endless courses and forever experimenting with new techniques. After leaving the corporate world, she decided to venture into photography as a full time career and began to take on family and commercial photo shoots. Just as things were starting to take off, she was completely sidelined.
In April 2021 Leann experienced a sudden reduction in vision in her right eye. Convinced by her son to seek immediate medical attention, she was diagnosed with a serious tear in her retina that required emergency surgery. The surgery appeared to be a great success, however, the story does not end there. In less than 3 weeks she found herself back in emergency surgery, blinded as a result of a post-surgical, complex retinal detachment. Three more surgeries later, she has recovered a percentage of the sight in her right eye and has gratefully returned to doing what she loves - photography and sharing her images with the world.
As someone who has personally experienced sight loss, she understands the immense value of our vision. Without the care and expertise she received from her team of eye doctors and specialists, she would like be left permanently blind in the right eye today. It has since become her mission to bring awareness to the importance of preventive eye health care.
In line with this mission she has proudly partnered with Operation Eyesight, whose work is instrumental in safeguarding and preventing the loss of sight for those in need. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of her artwork will be generously donated to their foundation.
